Body Piercing – Phuket

Phuket festivals are nothing short of spectacular and the special events held by Indian and Chinese folk simply love to entertain with their body piercing. These seemingly shocking acts of self-mortification as a test of their faith is not really for me as I find it a bit bizarre, but then a little bizarre is normal here.

Frying Bananas – Vegetarian Festival

The Vegetarian Festival

The Vegetarian Festival is one of the most important festivals held during late September and early October. They are generally celebrated by the Chinese community. I am often here at this time of the year, as being a vegetarian myself, there is always excellent fresh vegetarian food for sale on the streets. My favourite is the fried bananas and potato. You should also try the corn, either barbequed or boiled in sugar water. Why not try both. This event starts on the first day of the ninth Chinese lunar month and continues for nine days.

Phuket Gay Festival

Phuket Gay Festival is held during the month of August and whether you are gay or straight, you should not miss this auspicious occasion. This annual event first held 1999 was an instant success. Both tourists and locals alike loved it and today still continue to love it. This festival is one of the biggest and best there is here. It’s also held in one of the most exciting playgrounds of the world.

Because of the importance to publicise this southern coastal region, the local government have given their approval and welcome gay tourists to this friendly destination. Thai style freedom and happiness.

Phuket Festivals – Loy Krathong

Loy Krathong is a fabulous festival of light, held at all the major beaches and in Phuket Town itself. A most beautiful event whereby small floats are made, using banana leaves, then flowers, candles and incense are added. These are placed into the water at night to bring about good luck and to take away the bad.

Songkran Festival

Songkran Festival is Thailand’s water festival and probably the most famous of all the Phuket festivals, especially among tourists. It can be a lot of fun as long as you do not mind getting a little wet. No make that very wet. This event takes place during the hot season in April and usually lasts only a few days so staying indoors is really not an option at all. Oh yes, and not to be forgotten, sometimes talcum powder is thrown in for good measure. You have fair warning.
