An Animal Sanctuary near Pattaya

Sriracha Tiger Zoo is an animal sanctuary located near Si Racha in the Chonburi Province of Thailand about 30 kilometres (18 miles) from Pattaya. It is a wildlife zoo the whole family may wish to experience but it does, however, come with a word of caution for those who consider the welfare of animals an issue.

There has been some speculation as to the inhumane treatment of animals here. The zoo has been constantly engrossed in controversy regarding this problem so you may not want to visit the zoo for this very reason. Perhaps you do want to.

You will notice in the photo provided that the living conditions the tigers are subjected to are one such concern as are similar circumstances with the other animals too. It may not necessary be of concern for some visitors but I thought it best to mention it. Hopefully, many of these issues have been resolved of late.

Sriracha Tiger

Sriracha Tiger Zoo is home to two hundred Bengal Tigers and well over one hundred thousand crocodiles. There are also a variety of other animals who provide various forms of entertainment for the whole family. Some performances have the distinct feel as that of any commercial circus with tigers and elephants doing an assortment of carnival type acts. There are men and women who place their heads into the jaws of crocodiles and there’s also a pig racing show.

Yes, the zoo has a pig named Piggy (I bet they couldn’t think of a better name) who has a masters degree in mathematics and can apparently do calculations in five languages. Although I didn’t get to observe this, this particular pig is considered a genius in pig terms. No! I am just kidding about the degree.

I have been a witness to female tigers nurturing piglets as well as tiger cubs feeding on grown-up female pigs. During the months of May until August you could experience the hatching of newborn baby crocodiles. You may even be fortunate enough to see the Scorpion Queen place well over one hundred live scorpions all over her body. I wouldn’t want you to attempt this at home, though.
